I loved this movie! The only thing bad about it, is the title, I can’t remember it. I went to this movie with a friend and he was unable to tell his friends what movie he was going to, even though he had read about in Wired Magazine. The movie trailer does not do this film much justice, because my Parents are avid moviegoers, and the trailer did not appeal to them, even though I know what they like, and know they would love this World of Tomorrow.

The movie takes place in 1939. One of the references to the date of the film is “The Wizard of Oz” showing at Radio City Music Hall. The world of Sky Captain, takes place in a time where all man made items had a certain industrial beauty to them, not strictly the present day version of - form equals function. This film seems to take its visual style from old war propaganda posters with strong futurism references. Of course the buzz about this film is that it was filmed entirely against blue screen and all the sets are computer animated. Kerry Coran is the writer and director behind “Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow,” this being his first feature film and what a wonderful world he has created; or should I say he is... the Wizard. Kerry Conran wrote the special software that allows for this unique visual style, of incorporating the live action with computer images, all of this is all based on a short film of his.

The first two thirds of this film is much stronger in its imagery and story. Overall Sky Captain really succeeds in this fantasy world of the past it has created, a future that never was, and a future we no longer dream of. I mourned the lost of what future could be, while watching this film, and wished our present day could be more beautiful. This is a fun film with a very exceptional look and style to it. Bye the way, this film has an exceptional cast of the hottest stars: Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow and Angelina Jolie (They all do a great job). I did not want this film to end. You too should join the resistance; go see this film.
